What makes us unique is not just our hand-crafted, high-quality baked goods—it’s our mission. Every member of our team, myself included, is a survivor of domestic violence, human trafficking, and/or sexual assault. We’re not just bakers. We’re women who’ve fought our way out of darkness—and are now building something beautiful in its place.
I spent eight years in a domestic violence situation, which was hard. I was unprepared for just how hard the next part would be.
When I made the decision to leave, I temporarily closed Sweet Indulgence. I found myself without a stable home in Baltimore with my two young children—just 3 and 5 at the time. We were tired, alone, and terrified. I had no job. No support. No direction. Slowly, I fought my way out, found work, and began to rebuild. But survival wasn’t just about having a roof over our heads. It was about healing. About learning how to live again—how to be a mother, a provider, a human—while carrying invisible wounds.
That season of my life—the painful, uncertain, raw years of rebuilding—is what gave Sweet Indulgence its new purpose.
In 2017, Sweet Indulgence Bakery was reborn—not just as a business, but as a sanctuary. A safe, trauma-informed space where survivors can grow, heal, and rediscover their worth. Here, we prioritize what truly matters: safety, family, mental health, and self-worth.
Today, we operate out of a 4,000-square-foot commercial kitchen, tucked away in a quiet business park. If you visit, you’ll find a locked door with a sign that reads: “Appointments only.” That’s not about exclusivity—it’s about safety. Every single one of us deserves to feel secure, and we’ve built this bakery to be that refuge.
